Ambassador Walcott Presents Credentials In Guatemala

On Monday, January 09, 2023, Ambassador Ian Walcott, presented his credentials to H.E. Mr. Alejandro Giammattei, President of the Republic of Guatemala, accrediting him as Barbados’ non-resident Ambassador to Guatemala.  Ambassador Walcott is resident in Panama.

The following day, January 10, 2023, Ambassador Walcott met with high level officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, including Ms. Shirley Aguilar Barrera, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs. They discussed proposed areas of cooperation between Barbados and Guatemala such as education, tourism, trade, sports, and culture. During the discussions, the Guatemalan officials announced the award of two scholarships for Barbadian diplomats to attend the Diplomatic Academy of Guatemala and also offered to donate several plants to the National Botanical Gardens.  Ambassador Walcott thanked the Guatemalan authorities on behalf of the Government and the People of Barbados.

While in Guatemala, Ambassador Walcott also met with Mr. Mario Permuth, Barbados’ Honorary Consul, and Mr. Igal Permuth, the Hon. Vice Consul, to discuss matters relating to the advancement of Barbados’ interests in Guatemala.

Barbados and Guatemala established diplomatic relations on January 27, 1992.
