Building Capacity, Strengthening Trade Policy

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade hosted a highly engaging Trade Policy Workshop, bringing together key stakeholders to delve into critical trade issues impacting Barbados and our alignment with the World Trade Organization framework. This workshop was constructed after our Economist Keisha Goddard completed the WTO’s Advanced Trade Policy Course in Geneva, Switzerland with distinction!

The workshop was enriched by the participation of government officials, trade professionals and sector leaders, all contributing to an insightful exchange of ideas. Special thanks to Simon Neumueller from the WTO, whose expert presentation provided invaluable perspectives and practical tools for navigating today’s complex trade environment. Thanks also to Ambassador Matthew Wilson for his support.

Key highlights of the workshop included:

  • A deep dive into WTO notifications and their importance in ensuring transparency and compliance.
  • Collaborative discussions on improving trade facilitation, particularly in agriculture and export industries.
  • Interactive exercises that fostered actionable recommendations to address our current challenges.

The enthusiasm and commitment from participants were truly inspiring. Together, we are enhancing Barbados’ trade policy capacity and reinforcing our position within the global trading system.

As we continue this journey, there is excitement about the opportunities ahead to translate these insights into tangible outcomes for Barbados’ economic development.

Thank you to all who contributed to making this workshop a success. Let’s keep building bridges in trade!
