Permanent Mission of Barbados to the United Nations at New York

The Permanent  Mission  of  Barbados to the United  Nations at  New York  is  seeking an

Administrative Assistant- Research.

The Permanent Mission serves as the delegation of Barbados to the United Nations at New York, organising and coordinating the country’s work in this important multilateral body. This includes the regular sessions of the United Nations General Assembly, and the work of its Main Committees, the United Nations Security Council, and the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

The work of the Mission is intense and diverse, requiring flexibility, analytical thinking and a firm understanding of diplomatic principles. The environment is complex and demanding, but highly rewarding work.

Who can apply?
  • Recent university graduates with a qualification in international relations or a related discipline;
  • Lawful residents of the United States – preference will be given to Barbados and Caribbean Community nationals.

Work assignments

As Administrative Assistant- Research you will:

  • Assist the mission’s team in their daily work and help follow meetings
  • Conduct research
  • Write reports
  • Assist with the management of Mission’s social media accounts
  • Undertake general administrative duties
  • Receive, prepare, reply and send correspondence, memoranda, letters and emails, as required
  • Contribute to team effort by reaching related goals
  • Organise events and visits
Key selection criteria

The selection criteria are:

  • Relevant qualifications and/or experience – with preference given to those who have undertaken studies in the areas of political science, international relations, international law, human rights, gender studies, environment, security and international development;
  • Clear communications and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships;
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Proven ability to handle high pressure environments, demonstrating initiative and flexibility;
  • Prior exposure to, or demonstrated knowledge of, the United Nations system and

Barbados’ foreign policy priorities within the United Nations.

Training, conduct and ethics

The Administrative Assistant- Research is required to comply with the relevant rules and regulations of the Government of Barbados and should be ready to accept direction and guidance from Mission officers.

Office Hours

Office hours will be in-person Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Salary

US$37, 523.16 per annum, plus medical benefits
