Senator Dr. The Most Hon. Jerome Xavier Walcott, FB, MBBS, FRCS, JP

As chief diplomat, the Minister is responsible for the implementation of Barbados’ foreign policy, the management of its international relations and leads the promotion of its interests overseas.

Jerome Xavier Walcott was born on April 2, 1957 in Barbados.  Raised in Bridgetown and educated at St. Angela’s Primary School and the Lodge School, Barbados, he later graduated from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus, Jamaica.

Dr. Walcott is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of Edinburgh and a Justice of the Peace.  Outside of politics, he has served as a Medical Doctor, Consultant Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Associate Lecturer and Examiner for Final Surgery Exams at the University of the West Indies.  He was Project Manager for the establishment of CARPHA and also its Interim Executive Director.

Minister Walcott’s management skills have been called on repeatedly in both public and private sector agencies.  He has served with distinction on school Boards of Management, the Barbados Family Planning Association, the National Insurance Medical tribunal, as Chairman of the Transport Board, President of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners, (BAMP) and as Deputy Chairman of the Sanitation Service Authority.  Additionally, he remains an active member of the Barbados Agricultural Society, (BAS), Barbados Cricket Association, (BCA) as well as the Barbados Cancer Society, (BCS).

Minister Walcott remains committed to the promotion of friendship and cooperation between Barbados and other countries around the world through political and diplomatic channels.   His portfolio provides effective representation for the Government of Barbados through resident diplomatic missions, consular and honorary consular posts and the creation of opportunities for foreign trade and investment.

The Minister is also highly focused on protecting the interests of Barbadian nationals living and studying overseas, returning nationals and visitors to Barbados.
