There is keen interest between Panama and Barbados to cooperate in several areas, including climate change and increasing tourism arrivals between the two countries.

This was conveyed yesterday in discussions between Panama’s Minister of Foreign Relations, Javier Martínez-Acha, and Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, during a courtesy call at Ilaro Court.

Mr. Martínez-Acha praised Ms. Mottley for her leadership and efforts at social inclusion and other developmental efforts as they identified ways to deepen relations between Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the current COPA flight to Panama would be expanded to allow more Barbadians to travel to that country and experience the rich historical connections between the two nations and other social amenities.

The two officials also discussed the Bridgetown Initiative, global affairs, and other areas of mutual interest.

Barbados and Panama established diplomatic ties in August 1975.
