Barbados is proudly participating in the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations’ first global exhibition, From Seeds to Foods, which forms part of the FAO’s 80th anniversary celebrations.
The free public exhibition runs from October 10 to 13 at Parco di Porta Capena in Rome, Italy, and highlights technologies, good practices, and the diversity of global agrifood systems.
Senior Business Development Officer with the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc., Debbie Moe, expressed her excitement at having Barbados represented on the world stage.
“We thought it would be a great opportunity to tell the story of Barbados from a culinary perspective because we are indeed the culinary capital of the Caribbean…. We are bringing Barbados to Italy.”
Barbados’ Ambassador to the United Nations and Italy, Matthew Wilson, described the Barbadian booth as “Barbados in action.”
“Our Chef Jason Howard will be cooking up a Barbadian feast here for the high-level delegates as they pass through…so we can give them a taste of Barbados,” he said.
This milestone exhibition features participation from more than 140 countries, each showcasing agricultural innovations and a global harvest of agricultural products.
The exhibition is organised around three thematic sections:
- Agricultural Products of the World – bringing together products from all six FAO regions: Africa; Asia and the Pacific; Europe and Central Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; East and North Africa; and North America.
- Innovations in Agrifood Systems – exploring how food is produced, processed, and consumed.
- Foods of the World – celebrating the diversity of global cuisine as chefs, producers, and farmers share their traditions through cooking, tasting, and storytelling.
