Barbados is Calling — that’s the title of the new billboard campaign unveiled this past Saturday in Colón, during a cultural celebration hosted by Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), in collaboration with the Embassy of Barbados in Panama. The campaign forms part of BTMI’s ongoing “We Gatherin’” initiative, which celebrates the Barbadian diaspora worldwide. It also features a special promotion inviting those with Barbadian heritage to scan the billboard’s QR code for the chance to win a trip for two back to paradise.
The event featured a visit to unveil the new billboard campaign, remarks from Corey Garrett, Director for Latin America at BTMI, and Her Excellency Amanda Martinez, the new Ambassador of Barbados to Panama, as well as a spirited cultural performance by the Haynesville Youth Group from Barbados.
“With this campaign, we not only honour the Barbadian spirit that has long enriched Panama’s culture, but we also welcome descendants and friends of Barbados to reconnect, to rediscover, and to experience the warmth, heritage, and vibrancy of our island home,” said Garrett.
In her remarks, Ambassador Martinez emphasized the significance of the collaboration and the role of cultural exchanges in strengthening ties.
“Barbados and Panama share a bond that is rooted in history, but is also alive in the present,” said Ambassador Martinez. “Today’s youth performance from the Haynesville Group is a wonderful example of how culture continues to connect us across generations. It is not only about honouring the past, but also about building bridges for the future.”
This initiative follows BTMI’s expanded presence in Panama, including the opening of its first regional office in 2023 and increased airlift through Copa Airlines, making it easier for travellers across Latin America to discover the beauty, culture, and hospitality of Barbados.
