Outgoing Head of Delegation of the European Union to Barbados, Malgorzata Wasilewska, has ended her tenure in the region satisfied that the relationship between Barbados and that organisation is on a stronger footing.

She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, and by extension the Government, during a recent farewell call at Ilaro Court.

The two officials discussed the achievements and future areas of cooperation, particularly the diversification of production, exports and supplies as a means of reducing the cost of goods in Barbados, and agro processing.

The EU Ambassador said: “After spending nine years in the Caribbean, I feel super privileged, and I had a fantastic tenure. It was a most incredible time to be here with you (PM Mottley) at the helm…and you have the full attention of the EU.”

Ms. Mottley stressed that diversification of the supply chain was crucial, noting that to have “a credible player that would allow us to do exports from here is worth its weight in gold”.

“We have a perfect opportunity here and we need to be able to land it safely and not let technical obstacles get in our way,” she added.
