The Government of Barbados condemns the recent Israeli strikes on Qatar and expresses its solidarity with the Government and people of Qatar.
Violations of a country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, wherever and whenever they occur, are a breach of international law and the mutually agreed norms that have supported the stability of the international states’ system since the Second World War. Maintaining the integrity of these norms is essential to international peace and security.
The priority for the global community and the principal stakeholders in the Middle East and in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region should be an immediate and long-term ceasefire in Gaza, the return of all hostages and prisoners, and a recommitment to achieving the two-state solution that would allow the people of Israel, Palestine and the entire region to live in harmony.
Barbados remains committed to global peace and security and to the principles that support their realisation in our time.
